I guess they wouldn't have added big animals on the valley per se as it's supposed to be almost barren of life. That said, as much as the enviroment on SotC is supposed to be desolated, I do would have loved to see a couple more animals on the distance or different types of vegetation. The recent Playstation 4 remake adds a fresh coat of paint, with lush foliage and softer lighting. Theyre basically self-contained ecosystems with everything you need to play. Dormin, having the power to bring back the dead, is approached by the protagonist, Wander, who makes a deal with the entity. It is here that a demon (or god of sorts), known as Dormin, resides. Things like bosses being the whole game, meaning that finding them and defeating the both have to work like puzzles, empty traversal areas with nothing with their vistas, no experience bars or traditional stats or abilities to upgrade. As a huge SotC fan, I think the fact the game dared to be different from many other adventure games is what made it great.
